All the Kids Dentists, as well as the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, recommends that a child visits the dentist by his/her 1st birthday. This is to avoid potential oral health care problems in your child.
Parents do play a role in making the first visit to the dentist enjoyable and positive. Your child should be informed of the visit and told that the dentist will count and clean their teeth. The dentist will also show them how to care for their teeth.
It is best not to use words such as needle, pain, drill or hurt around your child as it might cause unnecessary fear. The kids dentist makes it a practice to use words that convey the same message, but are pleasant and non-frightening to the child.
Your child's first visit will include a complete examination. Radiographs (x-rays) may be obtained of your child's teeth if necessary. You are encouraged to accompany your child into the examination room. Following the clinical examination, we will advise you on the appropriate treatment required for your child and answer any questions you may have.
